The advanced search allows you to search by keyword plus the days since posted, agency, category, eligibility and more. You also have the ability to set yourself up to have emails automatically sent to you when grants are listed in a particular category that you are interested in.

Once you have your CFDA number or Funding Opportunity number of the grant that you want to apply for, you will need to download a grant application form. You will need to create a grants.gov account first. This account will help you track your application status electronically. Be sure to answer all the questions asked and follow all of the instructions provided. Careful attention should be made to any deadline dates on the grant. Applications will not be considered once the deadline has ended.

Even though the process of obtaining a federal grant can seem difficult to muddle through, it can certainly be a windfall for your small business. There is so much grant money available, in many different areas, for businesses and individuals alike. Because most people do not know how to obtain this “free money”, there are millions of dollars that are not allocated each year. This left over money is then rolled into the next calendar year. You might also want to visit sba.gov for more information on federal government grant programs. Remember, the federal government has money to give away. They just need people to ask for it!

In continuation to the post from Friday.

The www.grants.gov website is considered to be absolute best internet resource for information on government grants. There are many other websites available that will provide you with information for a fee. Some are expensive, so are not. With a bit of effort, you can find the information you need without paying an outside party to help you.

There are several ways to search for grants on the above listed website. The basic search enables you to search by keyword, funding opportunity number or Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number. Once you find a program number that suits your businesses needs, be sure to write it down for future reference. This will save you considerable time in the long run so that you do not have to begin your search each time from scratch. This number and the funding opportunity number are used for specific grants that are available.

Another way to search the website is by category. There are many different categories available. Look at each one listed to see which best describes the type of grant program you are looking for. There are many agencies offering grants so searching the entire site can take up quite a bit of time. Don’t worry though, your efforts can be rewarded greatly.

Please check back on Wednesday for the conclusion to this post.

The SBA and Grants Part I Of III

The Small Business Administration (SBA) offers some grant programs to businesses. These programs are generally designed to enhance and expand organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants will typically support non-profit organizations, state and local governments and intermediary lending institutions. Unfortunately, the SBA does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses.

The good news is that grants are available to all tax paying United States residents. There are programs available though the federal government, state government and private foundations. These programs do not need credit checks, security deposits, co-signers or collateral. People who have declared bankruptcy, or currently have bad credit, are even eligible to apply.

There are over $400 billion in grants that are currently available in the United States. With over 1000 programs, the task of finding a grant program that fits your small business needs may be daunting, but eventually worth the work.

In an effort to streamline the grant requests and available programs, the US government has formed a website so the public will have an easier time finding the information they need on government grants. The website is www.grants.gov. It is important to know how to navigate around this website so that your search time and efforts are reduced.

Please check back on Monday for the continuation to this post.
