The SBA and Grants Part I Of III

The Small Business Administration (SBA) offers some grant programs to businesses. These programs are generally designed to enhance and expand organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants will typically support non-profit organizations, state and local governments and intermediary lending institutions. Unfortunately, the SBA does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses.

The good news is that grants are available to all tax paying United States residents. There are programs available though the federal government, state government and private foundations. These programs do not need credit checks, security deposits, co-signers or collateral. People who have declared bankruptcy, or currently have bad credit, are even eligible to apply.

There are over $400 billion in grants that are currently available in the United States. With over 1000 programs, the task of finding a grant program that fits your small business needs may be daunting, but eventually worth the work.

In an effort to streamline the grant requests and available programs, the US government has formed a website so the public will have an easier time finding the information they need on government grants. The website is www.grants.gov. It is important to know how to navigate around this website so that your search time and efforts are reduced.
